RCP Parking Ltd made parking industry history by becoming the first winner of the new national Parking in the Community Award at the British Parking Awards 2010 in London.
RCP Parking Ltd and Bignold Primary School & Nursery, Norwich, won the trophy for their money-raising school car park scheme. The school has turned its staff car park and playgrounds into a popular city centre shoppers’ car park at weekends and during school holidays for many years.
The scheme was originally run through parent groups and manned by a team of helpers but, in 2007, RCP Parking Ltd was called in to operate it on a professional basis. The 150-space car park off Wessex Street raises money for school improvements and a range of good causes, even helping children as far afield as Africa.
Managing Director Shapoor Naghshineh says: “Winning this award was a real milestone for us and reinforced everything we’ve always said about putting the community high on our agenda and being the nation’s friendliest parking operator. It’s fantastic that we can combine fund-raising for so many worthwhile causes with quality contract delivery and we’re delighted our excellent Norfolk partnership has been celebrated at a national level as a shining example of how parking really can play a positive role in communities.
“We’ve certainly noticed that many people attach considerable importance to being able to park right in the heart of Norwich while knowing they are giving something tangible back to the community. It’s a winning idea in so many ways.”
A number of our car parks have gained Park Mark Safer Parking Awards, which reflect the emphasis that RCP Parking Ltd has always put on the safety and security of car park customers and their vehicles. The Park Mark Scheme is an initiative of the Associations of Chief Police Officers (ACPO/S) and is aimed at reducing both crime and the fear of crime in parking facilities.
RCP Parking Ltd always ensures that the Park Mark logo is displayed prominently because we want customers and potential customers to see clearly that these car parks are safe, secure and of a high standard approved by senior police officers.
Our long-term aim is to invest further in security measures and gain Park Marks at more RCP Parking Ltd sites, thereby doing everything we can to stamp out crime and to put customers at their ease.
RCP Parking Ltd was winner of an Inner City 100 Award for three years running, a scheme which celebrates the 100 fastest-growing inner city enterprises in the UK.
